This document constitutes the Privacy Policy for BloomScout, a field notes app for iOS. It outlines how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: We collect your name and email address to create your account, sign you in, manage your profile, and send verification codes.
- Field note information: We collect the field notes you create, including subject names, scientific names, notes, tags, observation dates, location notes, coordinates, comments, and photos.
- Group information: We collect group names, memberships, invitations, roles, sharing settings, and notification preferences so you can share field notes with selected groups.
- Device information: If you enable push notifications, we store your device notification token so BloomScout can send notifications.
- Photo metadata: If you import photos, BloomScout may read metadata you choose to use for a field note, such as embedded date, location, title, description, and keywords.
2. Use of Information
We use the information collected to:
- Create and maintain your account.
- Save, sync, display, search, export, and share your field notes according to your group permissions and sharing choices.
- Send sign-in codes, email-change codes, invitation-related notices, push notifications, and export download links.
- Store and display photos attached to your field notes.
- Support optional plant identification by sending the selected image to PlantNet when you use that feature.
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell or trade your personal information. Field notes, photos, comments, and profile details may be visible to other BloomScout users when you share them through a group or invite someone to a group.
BloomScout uses service providers to operate the app, including Amazon Web Services for hosting, database, file storage, email delivery, export processing, and backend infrastructure; Apple Push Notification service for push notifications; and PlantNet for optional plant identification requests.
4. Data Security
We implement data security measures, including authentication tokens, hashed verification codes, access-controlled backend APIs, cloud storage, and secure transport, to protect your information.
5. Privacy Policy Updates
Our Privacy Policy may change occasionally. We encourage users to periodically review this policy. Any changes become effective when they are posted on this page.
